In Case You Missed It: A Science Discussion On Peer Review And Pal Review

“The Pal Review system blurs the lines between what real science is versus tainted science that is impacted and shaped by politics and outside interest groups with specific agendas.”

Science, Peer Review vs Pal Review

I discuss numerous science- and technology-related topics on my YouTube channel entitled, Big Discussions76 Science and Technology. I took an interest in the climate change discussion about a year and a half ago after being aggressively confronted about it one to two years ago. The YouTube algorithm coincidentally later presented me with a video from the Independent Institute where Dr. Willie Soon was a featured speaker. I have since become a fan of Dr. Soon. Listening to his talks have given me a better understanding of this climate discussion though maybe one that some may not like.

Dr. Soon discussed the concepts of ‘Peer Review’ and ‘Pal Review’ in that initial talk described above. These two concepts are interestingly at the heart of the polarizing and volatile climate discussion. Something Dr. Soon discussed is that science is headed towards more of Pal Review system which is dangerous for everyone. The Pal Review system blurs the lines between what real science is versus tainted science that is impacted and shaped by politics and outside interest groups with specific agendas. The video below is my discussion on Peer Review vs Pal Review.

The article I discussed in the broadcast published on Forbes deals with Climate Gate, an important event in this climate discussion that most of the general public knows nothing about. This is critical because most people make their life decisions such as voting based upon that they know and don’t know. This has long lasting ramifications for everyone.

Three Services Your Business Needs In Colder Climates

Two of the focuses of my blog are Financial Literacy/Money and Business/Entrepreneurship. Some businesses have specific needs depending on climate and geography. This is absolutely true if you are running your business in a colder climate. The following contributed post is entitled, Three Services Your Business Needs In Colder Climates.

It doesn’t matter what type of business you are running, if you hate the summer and relocate to the colder climates of the world, you need to know how to handle the business. Your business is like your home and your car: without maintenance, it’s going to fail! You need your business to make money and profits can only be found when you treat it well.

If you decide to relocate to cooler areas of the country, you need to know how to make sure that you prepare and maintain your business properly. If you forget this part of the puzzle, you’ll find that your business shut down could cost you customers, cash and your sanity! So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at three services that your business needs to stay well-maintained in the cold!

1. Keep The Heat Running

You need your office building to stay warm, and not just because your staff need to stay toasty in the cold. The plumbing of your business could be in jeopardy if you don’t look after the heating. Extremely cold temperatures can freeze the water in the pipes and that can cause such damage that the pipes pop! So, make sure that your heating units are working properly and you pay the right people to come and service your plumbing. Keep the HVAC filters clean and schedule regular maintenance every month to ensure that everything is okay. If your thermostat is working, you can ensure that everyone stays as comfortable as possible.

2. Service Business Machinery

From manufacturing machinery to business cars and trucks, you need to put in an appointment for a service. Warehouse equipment can always be susceptible to damage in the winter months, but if you’re in colder climates they’re at risk almost year-round. You need to think about what machinery your business uses and get it maintained as much as possible. You would also need to ensure that you use commercial snow removal to clear off yards where your trucks and cars are waiting. Outside machinery is going to be at risk of damage, so you need to do all you can to keep it safe.

3. Get Ready For Snow!

If you move to the colder areas, you can expect there to be snowy weather. Snow can cause damage and you need to ensure that you pay for snow removal where possible. You also need to get to know local services for things like tree removal if there is a problem with a fallen branch. If you witness heavy snowfall, you may need to look after your staff, too, by wrapping chains on their tires as a part of their bonus!

Cold weather is adaptable but you have to pay attention to the temperatures and the implications it can have on your business. You don’t have to move back to the warmth for success, you just need to be prepared! Preparedness is the difference between success and failure. Now you know what to do, go and get it done!

The Importance of Business Resilience- in a Changing Climate

The first principle of my blog is Creating Ecosystems of Success and two key focuses are Financial Literacy/Money and Business/Entrepreneurship. One of the only constants in life is change. When running a business, one must keep their finger on the pulse of where things are going in order to survive. The following contributed post is entitled, The Importance of Business Resilience In a Changing Climate.

The changing pattern of our climate is a hot topic of conversation these days, isn’t it? And the focus of much debate – understandably. But, if you’re in business, is its impact something you’ve given proper consideration to? It should be…

Why is it important?

Businesses across the world need to build their resilience to extreme weather incidents – and prepare for climate change.

Virtually all sectors are affected by the impact of these factors on their supply chains, for example. As well as costs associated with any damage to properties, declining productivity, illness and accidents. And, if you’re involved in hospitality, food production, or construction – being resilient is especially crucial.

How you can respond

So how can you make sure your company is responsive to change – and able to deal with these issues effectively? The solutions are sometimes industry specific, but there are many key areas that everyone should look at.

The importance of planning

Firstly, you need to create a clear business continuity plan, which sets out your response to weather related challenges.

What should it include?

Look at where you are now and analyse realistically how the weather affects you and your company. And draw up a business impact analysis too – taking into account all possible scenarios.

Set out the threats and potential benefits of any unexpected change in the weather – in the present. A warmer winter could result in increased disruption to supply chains due to flooding, for example, but fewer snow related ones. Or it could impact on your building’s fabric and structure – but make it easier and cheaper to heat. How do you respond ?

We’re not suggesting for a moment that changes themselves are positive – but that we have to be ready. Even more predictable fluctuations in climate, or weather incidents, need to be considered, in business.

Maintaining the right staffing levels

One important area to consider is your staffing level – and how to balance that alongside business demand.. If a heatwave or storm arrives, for example, you need to be ready – how will it affect you? Even more moderate switches in temperature or conditions will have an impact.

Staffing has been, and will be, a challenge in these kinds of situations so it’s crucial to have a well considered, robust plan in place. Imagine you own a small manufacturing company, for instance, and shut down operations because of storm warnings.

It would be unfair to deny your employees a day’s pay if that forecast was inaccurate. And your profits would suffer. But, if you keep the doors open, that has to align with your legal obligation and duty to keep people safe. And maintain a functioning working environment. If you fail to meet the correct standards in all of these areas, your staff could rightly apply for workers’ compensation. This illustrates one of many practical applications of having accurate, timely information.

In conclusion, it’s crucial not to underestimate the effect of unpredictable weather conditions on your business. But, if you stay fully informed on their impacts and forward plan effectively, you can get ahead of potential challenges.

Then you will be best placed to respond successfully to a changing climate. And remain resilient.
