Looking for a job can feel difficult. But the news is, if you’re looking for a job right now, you’re far from alone. The global pandemic that has dominated our lives and the headlines for the past couple of years has resulted in major changes to the job market. Many companies were unable to cope with changes to working operations and collapsed, leaving many people jobless. Some companies had to make mass redundancies to get by, leaving more people without work. Periods of furlough where people had time off to reflect also resulted in many of us realizing that our current roles aren’t for us and that we might feel more fulfilled pursuing a different career path. Now, whatever your reason for looking for a new job, it’s important to make sure that you secure a position that meets your needs and ticks all of your boxes. The best way to achieve this is putting some thought in before applying for new roles. Here are some suggestions that can help you to land a position that works for you.
Salary
A major factor in which jobs people will accept and which they will reject is salary. Of course, everyone wants to earn as much as possible. But at the same time, we each have a budget that we need to hit to meet our bills and outgoings. It’s important to create your budget and determine exactly how much you need to earn to cover your rent and other essential outgoings. Then figure out how much you need left over to lead a good quality of life. This is what salary you should seek out. Remember, for higher paying roles, you may have to undertake some sort of education or training course. Maybe a degree or an affiliate marketing training course.
Working Hours
Working hours can greatly impact whether a job is suitable for you or not. First, let’s consider working time. Do you want to work during the day? Would you be happy to work night shifts? Do you need set shifts that give you set hours for you to plan your life around, or can you be more flexible? Some of us will prefer one option, others will prefer others. Next, consider how many hours you want to work. Are you looking for a full time role or a part time role? Would you like to stick to a standard 40 hour work week, or would you be okay working more?
What You Enjoy
You should also consider what you enjoy. Your job shouldn’t be something that you dread going to. Instead, you should feel a sense of fulfillment and enjoyment from it. This is where you’re going to spend a lot of your time, so it needs to at least be bearable. Your interests can help determine what field would best suit you. Do you enjoy helping others? Nursing, healthcare roles and social services roles could be suitable. Do you like animals? Working for a vet or in an animal sanctuary may tick your boxes. Like working with children? Daycare, teaching and other roles with kids could be good.
Where The Role is Located
You also need to know where you want to work. Do you want to work from home? Many roles are going remote since employers have discovered that this working mode can benefit both them and employees. Do you want to stay local? Are you willing to travel or move for the role? Location can be a key factor.
Of course, there are other aspects of jobs to take into consideration. But those highlighted above are, by far, some of the most important.
